The Poinsettia spreads warmth and Christmas spirit with its big, brightly coloured “stars”. It not only comes in classic red, but can also be white, salmon pink, dark purple, and even multi-coloured.
The “star” consists of what are known as “bracts” which surround the small yellow flowers in the centre. The Poinsettia looks good in any room in the house.
Use the mini poinsettia as decoration for the Christmas table – or put several together in a dish in the children’s room.
The Poinsettia is easy to look after. It should be kept evenly moist and should not be allowed to dry out. Ideally, water from the bottom of the pot. It does not tolerate temperatures below15°C. So wrap the Poinsettia up before taking it outside in the cold – then it’ll last until Easter!
The exotic beauty which, in the wild, can reach several metres in height, comes from the blistering climes of Mexico.
